Wisdom—Understanding—Knowledge
O Lord! Help us to hear Your words and to be faithful in Your house. Let us be a separate people, wholly given to You. Take us for Yourself and help us receive Your words and to treasure Your Commandments. Let us to do all that You have commanded. Make our ears attentive to wisdom and incline our hearts to understanding. [Proverbs 2:2] May we keep discretion and may our lips guard knowledge. [Proverbs 5:2] Let us understand the fear of the Lord; and that a Godly fear is the beginning of wisdom. [Proverbs 9:10] May we fear You and no one else!
Help us to seek wisdom and understanding like the hidden treasure that it is. [Colossians 2:3] May we find the knowledge of God—insight of the Holy One. We know that knowledge and understanding comes from the mouth of God; but wisdom is a gift. [James 1:5] Wisdom is for ourselves—for our understanding. Understanding leads to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Teach us Your rules—Your ways O Lord! Give us understanding that we may learn Your Word. [Psalm 119:73] For Your word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our paths. [Psalm 119:105] It is the unfolding of Your Word that gives us light; [Psalm 119:130] a light that lights the way to eternal life.
Reading Your Word gives us knowledge of Your Word; but the Spirit leads and guides us into the Truth of Your Word—that’s understanding! [John 16:13] We long for Your Word to be revealed to us and in us. Now write Your Word in our hearts and minds as we remember that our ways are always before Your eyes—that You ponder all of our paths. [Jeremiah 16:17 & Proverbs 5:21] We have purposed in our hearts to keep Your righteous rules. Now help us to be faithful in all the very little things that we might be entrusted with true riches. [Luke 16:10-11] O Lord, renew the oil of the Spirit daily within us; so that the light of Your Word may shine forth through us into the world. In Jesus’ name we ask for wisdom, understanding and knowledge. Amen.
