prayer

Prayer is communication with God. Every great relationship requires great communication. We should pray with thanksgiving and we should make our requests known to God. We must ask to receive! As in every conversation, we must learn to listen! Our first response to every situation should be prayer; for prayer changes things. For whatever reason, when our words do not seem to be effective—we should pray words from scripture. Our relationship with God is maintained by our conversations with Him.

While there is no mandate in the Bible on how many times to pray in a day, Daniel and David gave us insight into their prayer life. They prayed three times a day. Reading Scripture about these two men of God shows that their communication with God was effective. Daniel’s enemies had persuaded King Darius to establish an ordinance against making a petition to any god or man for thirty day except to King Darius.

When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.” Daniel 6:10 “Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice.”   Psalm 55:17 [Psalm by David]

We do know how to pray for Jesus taught His disciples how to pray. “Pray then like this:  “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,  and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” Matthew 6:9-13
