Commentary:
As Israel marks the anniversary of the Hamas’ attack on October 7, 2023 with solemn ceremonies remembering the lives lost in this conflict and the hostages still being held, the war continues to rage on multiple fronts. Hamas marked the anniversary by firing a barrage of rockets at the capital city of Israel. Hezbollah, in support of Hamas, fired numerous rockets into Israel.
In response to the Hezbollah attacks, Israel made more than 120 strikes on Hezbollah targets. It now seems that the war is spreading and intensifying on several fronts. There is mounting conflict with Iran. Five countries have attacked Israel in some way in the last year. They include: Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iran, and occupied Palestinian Territories. One Hamas leader, Meshaal, declared that the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel “…will lead to the disappearance of Israel.”
Since Israel, for the most part, missed the first appearance of the messiah, there have been those who have tried to “wipe them off the face of the earth.” All have failed. The declarations of others and these end time conflicts will also fail. God will preserve a remnant of his chosen people. I stand with Israel!

Wars and Rumors of wars—“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet.” [Matthew 24:6] This last week we have war in the Middle East with Israel and its historic enemies, Russia and Ukraine are at war. China is threatening Taiwan and North Korea is threatening South Korea. Canada and India have broken their diplomatic ties.
All of this is going on this week! Many other tensions boil beneath the surface awaiting ignition for another conflict! But the end is not yet! It awaits the outbreak of another Middle East war with Israel’s historic enemies and Russia seeking to “wipe Israel from the face of the earth.” When this happens, then the end is near!

Israel has announced that they will respond to the missile attack by Iran last week; but how to respond seems to be the problem. A weak response, or symbolic response, would not send the message that Israel wishes to send. A strong response could ignite, at the least, a Middle East war. The greater risk is that it could ignite a near world war. We will watch to see how Israel responds. For, as you know, Israel is going to be center stage for the end time performance.

Russia’s attack on Ukraines’s grain-exports are designed to take away an important revenue for their national economy. While Russia once agreed to allow the exports, they are now attacking ships and infrastructure to stop those exports. Ukraine continues to seek help from its supporters in its defense of its country.

This defense battery is to help defend Israel against missiles from Iran. With Israel planning a response to an attack from Iran a few days ago, it is expected that Iran will bombard Israel with missiles. Iran has warned the United States to keep troops out of Israel; but with the defense battery comes about 180 US troops! Those nations that are openly at war with each other have their supporters that, just as openly, help with supplies and weapons.

Some of the more serious damage done to Israel this year has been from Hezbollah’s drones. Missiles and rockets from Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas have done little damage to Israel. Israel’s defense system against these aerial attacks has not been as effective against drones. There are multiple reasons that drones are harder to detect. While not every drone gets by Israel’s defense system, their record is better than that of missiles and rockets.

China calls this, “flexing of their military muscle,” drills; but they are a threat to Taiwan, an island 267 times smaller than China. Yet Taiwan remains defiant. The US has asked China to “act with restraint.” It seems to me that China will not be appeased until they have control of Taiwan.

The news article says North Korea’s latest threat to South Korea is symbolic; but North Korea has been flexing its military might for the world to see. It seems its latest outburst was to destroy unused roads and railways within its own borders. History shows that North Korea would like unification with the South on North Korean terms. It seems to me that one important reason that they have not attempted to take over the south is that they fear the might of the United States, a staunch ally of South Korea.

The Biden administration has continually tried to put restraints on Israel by threatening to withhold funding and weapons. The United States has been Israel’s biggest supporter in the past. If Israel’s friends and supporter turn away from Israel, the implications and complications for a friendless Israel will be end time intense!
